Poly(Lactic Acid) is a bioplastic of the polyester family. It is probably the best known of the plastics derived entirely from renewable resources, most commonly corn. It is biodegradable and biocompatible.
Generally it crystallizes slowly,so is used in its amorphous form. This limits the temperatures at which it can be used.
